A Honeymoon Photoshoot in Shinjuku Gyoen, Tokyo, Japan
When it comes to capturing the essence of love in the city of The Rising Sun, a few places can rival the picturesque beauty of Shinjuku Gyoen, Tokyo. Bergado Photography had a great time with Stephanie and Tyler, who chose us as photographers for a couple’s photoshoot, celebrating their honeymoon and first time in Japan! The vibrant scenery and romantic ambiance made for an unforgettable experience.
Setting the Scene
When choosing Shinjuku Gyoen, you're choosing to blend traditional Japanese landscapes and nature. As we entered the park, we were greeted by a symphony of colors—lush greenery, blooming ginko trees and serene ponds. The park’s tranquil atmosphere provided the perfect backdrop for the couple’s special milestone.
Entering Shinjuku Gyoen through one of its three distinct gates is not just a matter of convenience; it sets the tone for your experience in this beautiful park. Each entrance offers a unique perspective and access to different areas, enhancing your visit.
Shinjuku Gate is the most accessible, located just a ten-minute walk east from the "New South Exit" of JR Shinjuku Station or a quick five-minute stroll from Shinjukugyoenmae Station on the Marunouchi Subway Line. This entrance welcomes visitors with vibrant flower gardens and expansive lawns, making it an ideal starting point for those looking to immerse themselves in the park's natural beauty right away.
Okido Gate, also a five-minute walk from Shinjukugyoenmae Station, offers a slightly quieter approach. Entering here allows you to explore the park’s more serene areas first, perfect for those seeking a peaceful escape from the city’s hustle and bustle.
Sendagaya Gate provides a convenient entry point for visitors arriving from JR Sendagaya Station on the local Chuo/Sobu Line. This gate offers quick access to the Japanese gardens and scenic views.
The Couple's Story
One of our absolute favorite moments in the journey with couples is that initial "get to know you" phase. It’s during this time that we begin to weave the threads of connection, setting the stage for a truly memorable photoshoot. Many clients may not realize how essential it is for a photographer and couple to be a perfect match—a harmonious blend of personalities. Without that chemistry, the experience can feel rocky, and the resulting images may not capture the emotions and warmth that make love stories special.
During our chat with Stephanie and Tyler, we found ourselves enveloped in a delightful exchange, discovering the nuances of their love story. Their laughter and shared glances spoke volumes about their bond, and it was evident that they had chosen Japan for their honeymoon photoshoot for a reason that ran deep. The breathtaking landscapes, rich culture and serene beauty of this country resonated with their romantic journey, making it the perfect backdrop.
The Golden Hour
As the sun began to set, we made our way to a spot overlooking the city skyline. The golden hour cast a warm glow over everything, and the couple’s love shone even brighter against the backdrop of the setting sun. There was a bench perfectly situated against the light that made for a great intimate moment between the two.
The Gear
Fujifilm X-H2S, XF50mm f2, XF16mm f2.8 and Fujifilm X-T4, XF33mm f1.4
Conclusion
By the end of the shoot, it was clear that their honeymoon in Shinjuku Gyoen was a beautiful celebration of their love. With each shot, we told a story of their journey, laughter and connection, creating lasting memories that they can cherish for years to come.
